The Sons of Italy in Binghamton is celebrating 100 years of fraternity, liberty and equality. The Sons of Italy Lodge #487, located at 62 Carroll Street, is holding a centennial celebration this weekend. The organization showcases Italian heritage while supporting the community. On Friday, a gala dinner-dance will take place at Traditions at the Glen from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
On Saturday, a grill party and open house will be held at the lodge. President Mark Dozoretz says the club allows members to stay in touch with their paisans. "For many it's a home away from home. They come down here and visit friends who are like brothers to them. That's part of our heritage. It's a refuge here. Part of the Sons of Italy creed is that we watch out for one another," said Dozoretz. On Sunday, a brunch will also be held at Traditions.
