Beaumont Councilman Mark Orozco failed in a bid to get his colleagues to consider changing Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day at Tuesday's council meeting, but he is not giving up his quest.

"I was hoping for the discussion. I didn't get a chance to do that," he said Wednesday. But he still plans to talk about the idea with members of the community, including Native Americans, because he knows other cities are discussing the topic, including Perris.
