The iconic Italian jewelry company Bulgari takes the colloquial expression "bling bling" to a whole new level. Trendsetter in every sense of the word, Bulgari is always at the forefront of opulent luxury. It is a brand synonymous with glamour and celebrity, a personal favorite of icons like Elizabeth Taylor.
The De Young Museum in San Francisco is exhibiting a fantastic collection of Bulgari jewelry in the "The Art of Bulgari: La Dolce Vita & Beyond, 1950-1990." A feast for the eyes doesn't quite do the exhibition justice. It's a tantalizing display of sparkling gems of indescribable size, a parade of beautiful design with equally dazzling colors.
"This exhibition focuses on the decades of the 1950s through the 1980s; in the period after World War II Bulgari began to create a unique style inspired by Greco-Roman classicism, the Italian Renaissance, and the 19th-century Roman school of goldsmiths. By the 1970s, Bulgari's bold and innovative style had gained success with celebrities and the jet set.
