It all started with a lunch in St. Moritz with Splendid’s creative director Pamella Protzel-Scott, but last night it was the Lower East Side that got a dose of la dolce vita thanks to Margherita Missoni. The granddaughter of founders of the Italian fashion label was in town to celebrate her newest effort, a capsule collection with the Southern California wardrobe staple. The resulting collection, which hits stores in March 2018, features pieces intrinsic to Missoni’s own life and style: free-flowing terry caftans, daisy-embroidered tees, and pinafore dresses for grown-ups.
“My style is more Italian, but also relaxed and laid-back,” said Missoni, reposing in the Public Hotel’s penthouse loft. “It makes sense with both [brand’s] DNAs.” And joining the duo in their festivities were an equally stylish, yet lo-fi crew including Amy Astley, Vogue’s Elisabeth von Thurn und Taxis and Selby Drummond, and Fabiola Beracasa Beckman. “I prefer to be underdressed,” said Missoni, who looked effortlessly elegant in said caftan. “[It’s] my way of dressing, even if it’s a black-tie affair.” And come 2018, Missoni and Splendid’s pieces will revolutionize relaxed evening wear.
