During the height of the Covid pandemic, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum not only expanded its reach to visitors with low vision through a dial-in program, it created a sensory guide to the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed structure that walks listeners down the sidewalk to the Fifth Avenue building in New York, through the threshold and up the swirling incline.
The narrators include actors Marilee Talkington, BD Wong, Bobby Cannavale, Jeremy Pope, and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Their voices, and others—using vivid, descriptive language—guide listeners through the experience of hearing New York traffic amid bird song as they enter the building or running a hand along the banister while moving up the ramp within the center of the building.
