The University of Berkeley is inaugurating its Program for the Study of Italy on Friday, February 19 from 2-4PM at 201 Moses Hall. The gathered crowd will be treated to a discussion with Ruth Ben-Ghiat, Professor of Italian and History at NYU, and Stephanie Malia Hom, Professor of Italian at the University of Oklahoma. The two distinguished Italian experts will discuss how mobility has shaped the Italian national experience.
From tourists traveling to the Italian peninsula to soak up the culture found there to the waves of Italian immigrants who have brought that culture to countries across the globe, movement is part of the Italian national identity. Professors Ben-Ghiat and Hom discuss this and more – such as the current immigrations to Italy from Northern Africa – in the new book they edited called Italian Mobilities.
