This week, the Embassy of Italy hosted the Lido Civic Club of Washington, DC Annual Scholarship Awards Presentation. Lorry Clavelli, the Scholarship Co-Chairman, organized an elegant affair with catering provided by Oro Pomodoro and a focus on celebrating the scholarship recipients. The club's President, Philip F. Finelli, Jr., welcomed the attendees with an address, which was followed by Father Lydio Tomasi's invocation.
Special guest speaker and the Embassy's Ministro Plenipotenziario, Cristiano Maggipinto, explained the importance of this event in the context of the Year of Italian Culture in the United States. Through the efforts of the Lido Civic Club of DC, NIAF, and the Embassy, high schools in the Washington metro area have seen a resurgence in registration for the Advanced Placement Italian Language and Culture exam.
