Thanks to modern technology, a group of children learning Italian language and culture "traveled" across the North Atlantic to last weekend to meet the mayor and students just like them who live in Middletown's sister city of Melilli, Sicily.
About 10 children ages 7-13 who study at the city's Italian American Committee on Education program joined Middletown Mayor Dan Drew, former Mayor Sebastian Giuliano, IACE coordinator Rose Aresco and teacher Michela Pirruccio for an internet video call via Skype. The morning included songs and anthems sung in Italian and English by both groups of students accompanied by enthusiastic waving of the American and Italian flags.
