The American Italian Women of Greater New Haven have been very busy planning the Scholarship Fashion Show Fundraising Luncheon and other actions. The Fundraiser was an outstanding success. We were able to give 3 Scholarships this year (2022). It was a wonderful afternoon at The Woodwinds in Branford CT. A delicious lunch was prepared by their culinary experts.
Contemporary Fashions were presented by the always wonderful Carol of Carol"s Creations. The elegance, the fun, the casual and the fancy. There was something for everyone's taste and pleasure. The very popular 50-50 raffle took place as did the self select raffle which boasted many many beautiful gifts. The more than 150 happy women were very generous.
In other actions we have decided to add a new dimension to AIW. It is an AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP OPEN TO MEN. An outreach program is being planned but we already have a few men members. For more information on this possibility contact us at [email protected].
Planning and preparation for our Fall Awards/Charity of Choice Luncheon. Two American Italian Women who have distinguished themselves in their field of endeavor will be chosen as will a worthy charity in Greater New Haven. Announcement coming soon. Our most recent activity was the Scholarship Presentation Luncheon on July 16 .
President Emeritus Letitia Morico is the Scholarship Chairperson. Patty Velleca collects the Scholarship applications from the area high schools. This is very competitive. A panel of AIW judges make the difficult choices as there are many high performing American Italian students. The finalists and their parents met at Brazi's on Long Wharf, New Haven. A large contingent of AIW members were on hand to congratulate and support the students. A fine lunch was served. It was an afternoon to be long remembered.
