In 1961, the late John N. Galardi opened the first "Der Wienerschnitzel" in Wilmington at a 600-square-foot structure with a walk-up window and a drive-through in the middle of the building.
On Tuesday the building was recognized as a historic-cultural monument by the city of Los Angeles and its Cultural Heritage Commission with a commemorative plaque presented by City Councilman Joe Buscaino.
