The Feast of Seven Fishes celebrated with mom’s recipes from Sicily

La Bella Restaurant and Winery in Norfolk is noted for its Italian cuisine and dining experience, balancing its dishes between homey and haute cuisine. Chef and owner Andrea DiCarlo takes a personal hand in assuring that his dishes appeal to the discriminating palate.

La Bella proved to be the perfect place to learn what would make a holiday menu with the Italian meal known as the Feast of Seven Fishes. "Of course we have recipes for the Feast of Seven Fishes," DiCarlo said. "My mother is from Sicily, where it's called La Vigilia, the vigil of the nativity." It is the celebratory meal that families have while abstaining from meat before Christmas, and possibly midnight Mass. "I'm preparing to work on this year's menu now."
