DRAW IN SICILY'S STUNNING SOUTHEAST with Artist Teacher JESSICA HOUSTON and LA ROSAWORKS. Oct. 8 - Oct. 16, 2015
In the magical area of Southeastern Sicily, where the sea stretches before you and the Iblean Mountains rise at your back, we will have the opportunity to draw from the richness that Sicily offers: archeological sites, architecture, landscape, decorative sculpture and statuary. Each day we will draw at a different site with instruction and guidance. Deepen your understanding of drawing skills, your own creative process, and your knowledge of Sicily, all with an eye towards fun, exploration and discovery.
In a cheerfully relaxed and nurturing, yet serious environment, you will grow artistically as we have fun touring this stunning area:
- Ragusa Ibla, a Baroque masterpiece with splendid vistas
- Modica, city of 100 churches in UNESCO's Val di Noto
- Noto, Sicilian Baroque at its best
- Donnafugata Castle, one of the region's most spectacular sites
- Caltagirone, Sicily's beautiful ceramics making center
- Siracusa and Ortigia, the quintessentially charming, artisanal center of Sicily
Wineries to taste the fruits of the fertile land
The tour is appropriate for all skill levels, including those with no previous experience.
Jessica Houston teaches drawing at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. She has lectured at many places including Columbia University and The Art Institute of Florence, Italy. Jessica's work uses color, light, and sound to explore the physical and immaterial nature of perception in site-specific installations. She trained classically in drawing, painting and sculpture in Florence, Italy, where she lived for many years. www.jessicahouston.net
