A years-long inheritance battle between an American-born princess and her stepsons could soon reach a happy ending for the world’s only ceiling painting by the great Italian Renaissance artist Caravaggio (1571–1610). Thanks to a legal settlement, it appears the family is close to arranging the private sale of their home, Rome’s Casino di Villa Boncompagni Ludovisi, or Villa Aurora, which would turn the historic property into a museum.
“The villa will probably become a museum, either run by a buyer or by the family.” But art lovers don’t have to wait for any real estate deals to be finalized to get a glimpse at the home’s oil-on-plaster mural masterpiece, titled Jupiter, Neptune and Pluto (ca. 1597).
