With still one day of competitions to go, Italy accelerates its sprint in the general medals table of the SUDS Open Euro TriGames - competition for Athletes with Down Syndrome - thanks to athletics and synchronized swimming. Moreover, the medals were accompanied by two world records signed by Nicole Orlando.
The "Azzurra" retouched the record in the long jump (3.55 meters) and then conquered also the new world record in the Triathlon with 2298 points. That's not all, as the Azzurra won another three gold medals (discus, weight and 4x400 relay) during the event. The whole National team, however, is running great: 11 medals were won today between the track and the platform.
In the long jump, the podium is all Italian: Orlando, Zeni, Zendri. The men's and women's 4×100 relays were also confirmed to be unbeatable, for an Italian domination that also generated another interesting fact: the 1000 international medals won by athletes with intellectual-relational disabilities of the FISDIR were exceeded (a figure that starts from 2009, the year in which the Italian Federation of Paralympic Relational Sports was founded).
Another 5 medals today bear the signature of synchronized swimming. The synchronized swimmers, at their debut in this European Championship, did not betray the expectations. Marta Cantero won the gold medal in the solo free, preceding Livia Travia. Double Italian victory also in the tech only, with Francesca Nicosia gold and Martina Sassani silver. Sassani-Cantero, then, conquered another silver medal in the duo.
