Italy's economy can look forward to a boost if the Italian national team wins the World Cup in Brazil, according to a study released by farmers' association Coldiretti on Thursday.
The Coldiretti report cited record increases in Italian food, automobile, clothing and machinery exports in the year immediately following the 2006 World Cup triumph. Leading the increase were goodies such as cheese, salamis and wine, up 30%, followed by car sales overseas (16%) and machinery, food and beverages (9%).
