Italy's Industry Minister Federica Guidi signed the implementation guidelines on Thursday necessary to unlock €260 million of public funding resources available in 2015 to promote "Made in Italy" products. The amount is six times as much as the average annual budget of the past five years. The plan, which now must be reviewed by Italy's Supreme Audit Court, relies on two key pillars: projects to promote Italian businesses abroad, and projects to attract foreign investment.
A recession has hurt domestic spending, but Italy's exports rose to a new historic record in 2014: €398 billion, €8 billion more than the previous year. The small companies that form the backbone of Italy's economy however need help in cracking new foreign markets.
