Three new records in one afternoon. Italian athletes carve them during the Savona International Meeting in the shot put, women's 100 meters and long jump. Leonardo Fabbri, Zaynab Dosso and Mattia Furlani the protagonists of the different disciplines who added another page to Italian sports history. An exciting path ahead of the upcoming Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.
Fabbri breaks Andrei's record in the weight after 37 years. Fabbri showed enough technique and strength to clear Alessandro Andrei's name at the top of the weight throw. The athlete from the Marche region hurled the implement to 22.95 meters, +4 centimeters over the 22.91 measure that had held out for a full 37 years (1987). A result that is not accidental but the result of the great work done so far and that at the World Championships in Budapest (2023) had earned a silver medal.
Dosso's impressive progression, new Italian record in the 100 m. Fast as the wind. Chapeau also before Dosso's performance: the 24-year-old sprinter ran the 100 meters in 11″02. She did it in difficult weather conditions due to heavy rain but with the same determination that, already in the battery, had allowed her to stop the clock at 11″12 (national record). In the final she was at her best: with a clean stride and a fast pace she pulled away from Luxembourg's Patrizia Van der Weken (11.12) and Michelle-Lee Ahye of Trinidad and Tobago (11.16).
Furlani breaks into long jump with under-20 world record. A leap into the future. Mattia Furlani stood out from the platform and reaffirmed to everyone how strong he is, how tangible the rumors about the new talent of Italian athletics are. He burst into long jump history with an under-20 world record: he flew through the sky to land at 8.36 meters, 1 centimeter more than Russian Sergey Morgunov (2012). Furlani reached that extraordinary measure in the second jump after 8.25 in the first. No problems with homologation (the favorable wind was within limits) nor mockery around the corner as happened a year ago when he went as high as 8.44 but saw his performance canceled.
