After losing to the Swedish city of Åre the 2019 World Ski Championships, Cortina d'Ampezzo, in the province of Belluno, in recent days was designated as the host of the 2021 World Ski Championships. The World Ski Championships are events that can attract tens of thousands of visitors.

The estimates predict a turnout of 150,000 during the 2-week long event, which will add to the 650 million television viewers. The planned works aim at the relaunch of the famed winter resort: "Not white elephants, but investments that can support the growth of tourism for at least the next 10 years," says the project in a statement.
