Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti are Olympic bi-champions in the Nacra 17 mixed, sailing. The Italian duo finished in 2nd place in the Medal Race won by France, but with no medal hopes. After yesterday's long wait with no wind, the Italians did well to keep their concentration high.
After the first upwind side of the Medal Race, with wind still dropping, around 5 knots, France chased by Tita-Banti passed ahead of their Argentine rivals. In the downwind side, the Azzurri increased their lead over the pursuers, still behind France but without danger from the Argentines, eighth.
Great calm and concentration on board, with helmsman Tita giving directions and Banti, with his black marks under his eyes, managing the sails with surgical precision administering the lead very well finishing in second place and winning his second consecutive Olympic gold medal.
Meditation, muscle activation exercises, but most of all pasta with sauce: "Eat pasta, go faster!" the motto of Tita, who as always brought mom Mirta's sauce, the secret ingredient for this golden couple.
