The United States will face Italy in a friendly in November in a matchup of teams that surprisingly failed to qualify for the World Cup. The Italian football federation announced on Friday the game has been set for Nov. 20, with the site still to be determined. It is likely to be in Europe as Italy are scheduled to host Portugal in the UEFA Nations League three days earlier.
U.S. Soccer does not announce friendlies before all the paperwork is completed. Italy has won eight of the 12 games the countries have played in the past, including the Olympics from 1936-52 and an unofficial match in 1975. The Americans got their only win in the last meeting in 2012, when Clint Dempsey secured a 1-0 friendly win in Genoa.
