While the tug of war between Italy and France over Alitalia is still rumbling on, another is taking place over wine as Italian production has risen to an estimated 45 million hectolitres, ahead of France's 44 million hectolitres, making Italy the world's number one wine producer in 2013. Farmers' association Coldiretti has calculated the figures for a harvest that is now virtually complete, which show a 2 percent rise over last year. It also reported unusually good quality for the great red wines, such as Barolo, Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino and Aglianico. . .
