In this week's Maphead, Ken Jennings explores a confusing set of lettered trees in Italy. It's a head-scratcher for tourists driving through the Appenine Mountains of central Italy.
High above the town of Antrodoco, on the slopes of Monte Giano, the letters "DVX" are spelled out in 20 acres of pine trees. Is this a messed-up Roman numeral? A tribute to Denver International's original airport code? A giant billboard for a brand of Wal-Mart sunglasses? The real story is even weirder than that.
