The Paris 2024 women's volleyball tournament smiles on the Bel Paese: never beyond the quarterfinals in two decades, on the five-ring throne after overcoming the hurdle of the first knockout round. After three finals lost by the men (Atlanta 1996, Athens 2004 and Rio 2016), the girls dominate the first final act played at the Games and make the Mameli Anthem ring out at the South Paris Arena.

Italy overwhelmed the USA in a literally one-sided final, imposing itself with a crushing 3-0 (25-18; 25-20; 25-17). the gap between our national team and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champions was simply enormous. The Italian team is led by CT Julio Velasco, finally crowning his dream of gold at the Olympics after the final lost to the Netherlands in 1996 at the helm of the men's lineup.

After outclassing Serbia (the World Champions) and Turkey (the European Champions), the path closed by dethroning the star-studded battleship, beating the Americans as had already happened at the triumphant 2002 World Championships.

Paola Egonu (voted MVP of the Olympic Volleyball torunament) put up 22 points (4 walls) under the direction of a great Alessia Orro (3 points), in double figures also Myriam Sylla (10 points, 2 ace) flanked in the department by a wonderful Caterina Bosetti (9), in the center the amazing captain Anna Danesi (6 points, 4 walls) and Sarah Fahr (7 points), a monument to Monica De Gennaro, tremendous impact test by Ekaterina Antropova (6 points) who entered double change in the final three sets, along with Carlotta Cambi, to take over for Egonu and Orro.
