The Ivrea carnival: a tradition of rebellion and the battle of oranges

The Ivrea Carnival in Piedmont is one of the oldest in Italy and is the only one that has carried on some traditions since the Middle Ages. One of the most fascinating aspects of this Italian Carnival is the famous "Battle of the Oranges": in the streets, during the parade, a real battle takes place with oranges being thrown between the citizens!
 
This year, Ivrea Carnival introduces a new digital voting system to decide the winners of the Battle of the Oranges. For the first time in history, digitization is merging with the tradition of one of Italy's most famous carnivals: the judges will be equipped with tablets, and the teams and floats will be able to vote easily, quickly, and securely from their mobile phones.
