Italy is, by definition, a land of differences. From north to south, from east to west, landscapes, habits, food, climate, flora, and fauna: they all change. But perhaps nothing says as much about the country’s multifaceted, at times complex, reality as the way we speak. The accent and vocabulary of an Italian from Lombardia are very different from the accent and vocabulary of an Italian from Puglia.
We are all Italians, enjoying life under the same sky, but, oh! We speak differently! Even more than in our beloved national language, it is in Italy’s dialects that such diversity truly resides, a diversity that is at once a cultural and linguistic wealth, as well as a strong identitarian marker.
