Italy of cycling is golden! Chiara Consonni and Vittoria Guazzini take the top step of the podium in the track cycling madison, winning what can be seen as a historic medal. The two blues are the authors of a race to be framed, in which they manage to collect 17 points in the sprints and another 20 points by winning a lap over all the opponents (the only ones to do so along with the Dutch).
The total therefore makes 37 points, with Consonni and Guazzini preceding in the final ranking two of the big favorite teams, namely Great Britain (silver with 31 points) and Holland (bronze with 28 points). Great credit must be given to the entire Italian team, starting with Marco Villa, who decided at the last minute to rely precisely on the duo formed by Guazzini and Consonni, leaving Elisa Balsamo at rest.
It was a perfect strategy, with the two azzurre very good at conquering the decisive lap in the final part of the race.
