A sweeping project being planned on the tiny Italian island of Pantelleria envisions electric power plants fueled with renewables, cells to store energy, and an electric transformation of public and private transportation. The project, which aims to improve energy efficiency and cut carbon emissions, would turn the picturesque Pantelleria into a so-called "Smart Island" by 2020.
The project, formalized in recent days with the signing of an agreement between the mayor of Pantelleria, Salvatore Gabriele, representatives of Terna Plus, (a subsidiary of Terna, which develops and manages the company's so-called non-regulated businesses), as well as reps from S.Med.E, the entity that oversees electric energy production on the island.
