Parma will compete for the title of UNESCO 'City of Gastronomy', ANSA has learned. The city, which is famous for its prosciutto and cheese as well as its architecture, was put forward for the UNESCO Creative Cities network by the Italian National Commission for UNESCO. Rome was also put forward, as Creative City for Cinema.
The network brings together 69 cities from 32 countries that have identified creativity as an important factor in their development. Eight of these cities have already been awarded the 'City of Gastronomy' status, but if Parma is to succeed, it will be the first in Italy to be given the badge of honour. The judges have already begun deliberating the nominations and the decision will be made by December 11 this year.
