A new study from Italy shows a promising solution to the challenge of efficiently combining solar energy with hydrogen production. The research, conducted by the University of Milan, suggests that a hybrid system integrating photovoltaic (PV) technology and hydrogen could be the key to storing solar energy at a larger scale, making renewable energy more reliable and consistent.
The concept behind the study is to harness solar energy, which fluctuates throughout the day, and use it to produce hydrogen through electrolysis, a process that splits water into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity. This hydrogen can then be stored and used as a clean fuel for various applications, including transportation, industry, and power generation, when the sun isn’t shining.
