The majority supporting the Italian government is working on reforming the electoral law, and among the topics under review is the vote of Italians living abroad. The main goal of this effort is to prevent fraud. Currently, Italian citizens residing abroad and registered on the specific electoral rolls vote by mail.

To facilitate this, a special Overseas Constituency was established for the election of Parliament. The Overseas Constituency is divided into four districts: Europe (including the Asian territories of the Russian Federation and Turkey); South America; North and Central America; and Africa, Asia, Oceania, and Antarctica. One of the proposals being discussed is to create a single electoral district.
