United's new direct flight between San Francisco and Rome will start in the summer of 2023. The U.S. airline further ups the ante on the Peninsula with a new daily service that will debut next May 26 and run until the end of September. This will bring to 9 the company's direct Italy-U.S. flights, which will also confirm the 2022 new entry, the Milan-Chicago.
The new connection will be operated with Boeing 777-200er aircraft, configured with a total of 276 seats, including 50 in business and 46 in economy plus. "With nearly 250,000 annual passengers in 2019 between Rome's catchment area and the Bay Area," said Federico Scriboni, head of aviation business development at Aeroporti di Roma, "San Francisco represents one of the largest areas in the United States in terms of demand to and from Rome. The launch of this important new direct service will accelerate the overall traffic recovery and create new opportunities."
