I’m always amazed that there are rarely foreigners in this region. And to think that travellers are in a hurry to get down to Sicily as fast as possible, whilst bypassing this beautiful and untouched part of Italy. Known as the Violet Coast for its sublime and dynamic colours, this really is a spectacular region of Italy, and one not to be missed. Although not too many foreigners visit this area, it is popular with Italians.
Depending on how you arrive in Scilla, you land either in the beachfront Marina Grande or the fishing village of Chianalea. The areas are connected by a massive tunnelled archway and nestled on either side of the ancient Castello Ruffo. Strategically perched high on a rocky outcrop overlooking the stunning Tyrrhenian Sea, this craggy promontory is steeped in history.
