Google, the influential tech giant, spent this week hosting a very low-profile conference for some very high-profile business and opinion leaders. While the event has been widely reported, Google has mostly kept quiet about it.
The New York Times, which broke the story, called it the "Davos of summer," comparing it to the World Economic Forum, an elite mover and shaker think tank held each ski season in Switzerland. Other publications focused on the elite guest list, but all seemed somewhat surprised how Google's A-list event arrived so quietly. As a travel writer, I was more surprised at where they held it: Verdura Golf & Spa Resort, a Rocco Forte resort in Sicily.
