Fiat Chrysler plans to introduce a new lineup of rear-wheel drive Alfa Romeo sedans and SUVs that will take the fight to BMW, Mercedes and Audi, and they will do so with Ferrari powerplants. These models are slated to arrive starting in 2016, and the high-end versions of these cars will use powerplants designed by Ferrari.
Since 2004, Alfa Romeo sales have fallen by 56 percent. But European auto sales are now back on the rise and Fiat Chrysler wants to pounce on the opportunity to reinvigorate Alfa Romeo. The plan will see Alfa Romeo models commanding higher price points than their mass-market cousins from Fiat, Chrysler and Dodge.
