Fonzo, the upcoming biopic on Al Capone, is rounding out it's cast. It was previously announced that British actor Tom Hardy will chomp on the cigar. Linda Cardellini, Matt Dillon, Kyle MacLachlan, and Kathrine Narducci will be joining the gang, according to Variety.
Al Capone, aka Scarface, the Brooklyn mobster who was sent by Frankie Yale to cool his heels in Chicago, has been played by some of the best actors in Hollywood, but rarely by an actual Italian, and Robert De Niro is half-Irish. Paul Muni and Edward G. Robinson were both Jewish, which is almost the same as Italian in a lot of New York neighborhoods. Jason Robards and Neville Brand were both, whatever they were, but they certainly weren’t Italian. Stephen Graham, who played Capone on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, was, and probably still is, British.
