The Italian American Review (IAR), a bi-annual, peer-reviewed journal about the histories and cultures of Italian Americans, as well as other aspects of the Italian diaspora, is seeking submissions of articles. Interdisciplinary in nature, the IAR entertains articles about a wide variety of topics in the social sciences, cultural studies, and literary criticism (the IAR does not publish creative work such as poetry, fiction, or memoir).
Since Winter 2020, the IAR has been published and distributed by the University of Illinois Press. The journal is available online through JSTOR and EBSCO's "America: History and Life" database. The IAR is listed in the MLA Directory of Periodicals and in the Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of the University and Research Systems (ANVUR) Directory of Scientific Publications with "class A" status for area studies 11/A5 (Cultural, Ethnic, and Anthropological Studies) and 14/C2 (Sociology).
Authors wishing to have an article manuscript considered for publication should follow the submission guidelines available online at either the UIP or the IAR webpages listed below and submit their articles to the editor ([email protected]) and the managing editor ([email protected]). Manuscripts are acknowledged on receipt and are evaluated first by the IAR editor, and then, if deemed appropriate, unidentified manuscripts are sent to two qualified anonymous referees for review. When a manuscript is submitted to the IAR, it should not have been published elsewhere nor be under consideration by any other journal.
Articles should be approximately twenty-five to thirty pages (6,250–8,000 words) in length, double-spaced, not including bibliography and endnotes. The IAR follows the 17th edition of The Chicago Manual of Style and uses the author-date system for citations, with authors' full names included in the Works Cited list. Articles in the IAR may include figures, such as photos, tables, or drawings, all in black and white. Figures must not be embedded in the Word files and should be submitted with the manuscript in a separate file. Figures should be a minimum of 5 inches wide at 300 dpi (or 1MB minimum for small images or 2–3MB for full-page width), and copyright permissions must be secured by authors. Please contact IAR's editor, David Aliano, at [email protected] with any questions.
