Tony La Russa, Bobby Cox and Joe Torre — three of baseball's most decorated managers — were unanimously selected Monday for induction to the Hall of Fame.
La Russa ranks third on the list of all-time managerial victories, trailing only Connie Mack and John McGraw. Cox is fourth and Torre fifth.
La Russa, whose father is Italian and mother is Spanish, won World Series titles with Oakland in 1989 and St. Louis in 2006 and 2011, retiring days after the Cardinals beat the Texas Rangers in a seven-game thriller. Joe Torre had a long and productive playing career as a borderline Hall of Famer (he is the only person in baseball history to be named both MVP and Manager of the Year) will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a manager.
