University of Texas pitcher Matteo Bocchi threw two innings of scoreless relief with four strikeouts against Big 12 Conference rival Oklahoma Sooners to close out his Longhorn baseball career at UFCU Disch Falk Field in Austin on May 16, 2019. The deceptive right-hander served as a starter and a reliever for a total of 33 innings during the 2019 season with two wins, two losses, two saves, 24 strikeouts, 8 walks and an 2.45 ERA.
Matteo Bocchi made 21 appearances as a first-year junior at the University of Texas in 2018. One of the biggest accomplishments for the the Italian-born and developed player was pitching five strong innings to pick up the win over Tennessee Tech (ranked #20) on ESPN in front of a sold-out hometown crowd in Austin on June 11, 2018 to advance the Texas Longhorns (ranked #14) from the NCAA Super Regional to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.
