AMHS Luncheon: "Bersaglieri" The Unique Italian Army Infantry Unit

Dec 17, 2014 904

Join the Abruzzo Molise Heritage Society (AMHS) for a fascinating presentation by Col. Rodolfo Scanga, Military Attache, Embassy of Italy. He will tell us the story behind the amazing high-mobility light infantry unit of the Italian Army.

The Bersaglieri are known for their distinctive wide-brimmed plumed hats ("vaira") and black gloves, and for their fast pace during parades, when they jog instead of march. This elite corps was created in 1836 and nowadays participates in peacekeeping missions in far-flung corners of the world, including Lebanon, Somalia and Iraq. Come join us to find out more about the fascinating history of the amazing Bersaglieri.

MENU: Lunch will be catered by Fontina Grille (with an entree, salad, bread, dessert, and beverages).

For information call Lynn Sorbara (301) 926-7792.

Reservations are made with your payment. Please make your $25.00 ($20.00 for AMHS members) check payable to AMHS (BY JANUARY 21, 2015). Send to AMHS, c/o Jeffrey Clark - Treasurer, 12 Adams Street NW, Washington, DC 20001.
