It's that time of year when those who are so inclined can forget that summer's dog days are numbered and instead celebrate as "paisanos," whether they're Italian or not. Festa Italiana tends to have that effect on people. The revelry that began Friday evening went full tilt on Sunday afternoon, following the post-Mass procession for the feast day of Santissimo Salvatore, or the Holy Saviour.
Members of Holy Saviour Parish, friends and family took to Main Street outside the church for the 112th time for an occasion that was both solemn and joyous, as well as behind the Holy Saviour Club for games of bocce, live music by the Verdi Band and, of course, copious amounts of pork and sausage sandwiches, tomato pie and that Italian delicacy known simply as fried dough.
