An Italian idea: peace as a measurable value for business

By: We the Italians Editorial Staff

Peace is usually treated as a big, abstract ideal – inspiring, but hard to pin down inside a quarterly report. A new Italian initiative is trying to change that by turning “positive peace” into something companies can measure, manage, and improve with the same discipline they apply to emissions, safety, or governance.

The idea starts with a simple shift in definition. Peace is not only the absence of war. It also includes the structural, cultural, and institutional conditions that allow people and organizations to thrive – a concept often described as positive peace. For businesses, that translates into lower exposure to instability, stronger trust in markets, and better long-term resilience.
