Cafe Dolce is a throwback to one of the village's longest-standing Italian bakeries. After Artuso Bakery shuttered last year, Dolce owner Luigi Fata got in touch with the Artuso family and decided to open a similar operation in its place. "Besides the bar, I kept it exactly like Artuso," Fata said of the eatery at 270 Mamaroneck Ave., which opened in August. "So many people asked for their product, I couldn't say no."
Fata, who used to own Pizza Factory in Greenwich, Connecticut, comes from a family of cooks with roots in the Bronx. His uncle owned an Italian cafe in Morris Park in the borough. "I come from a family of food," he said. For the grab-and-go diner in a morning rush, Cafe Dolce offers coffee, teas and pastries which come from Artusos' industrial wholesale bakery in the Bronx.
