The Consulate General of Italy in San Francisco has announced its intention to appoint the head of the Office of the Honorary Consul in Portland, Oregon. Working under the direction of the Consulate General in San Francisco, the Honorary Consul will primarily assist Italian citizens and protect Italian interests within the consular district.
Please note that the selection will not be conducted through a competitive examination or any comparable selection process.
Honorary consular officials are selected by the appropriate Italian authority – the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation – “from among individuals, preferably Italian citizens, who are held in high esteem and enjoy a strong reputation, and who provide full assurance that they can adequately perform consular duties” (Article 47, paragraph 1, of Presidential Decree No. 18 of January 5, 1967). The selection will be conducted in accordance with the procedures and requirements established by MAECI Circular No. 7/2024.
Candidates should also have sufficient proficiency in the Italian language.
Please note: Appointment to perform honorary consular duties does not constitute public employment or an employer-employee relationship. It is a voluntary service role involving the performance of honorary duties on behalf of the Italian government.
