This Italian restaurant serves free appetizers in Indianapolis

By: Liz Biro

Italy has this thing called “aperitivo.” Go out for drinks after work and get free appetizers. It’s one of those la bella vita traditions I keep wishing would catch on in America. I’m doing my part to make that happen at Sangiovese Italian restaurant on Indianapolis’ north side. From 4:30 to 6 p.m. daily, aperitivo happens at Sangiovese’s bar. Buy a drink and get a free appetizer. Have another drink, get another appetizer and so on and so on.

I’m not talking beer and popcorn or high balls and potato chips. Sangiovese bartenders have developed a list of dazzling spritzers and cocktails to pair with hefty nosh. The Amalfi Spritz’s sweet aroma captured me before the first taste. It’s a fizzy prosecco and pineapple drink with a dash of bitter Aperol and fresh lime juice.
