Crowds gathered at the State Capitol as lawmakers worked on a proclamation to recognize October as Italian-American Heritage Month. The members of the non-partisan Italian caucus met with the Pennsylvania Sons and Daughters of Italy to celebrate their culture.
One attendee says events like this are important for everybody. "There is a lot of heritage," Victoria Sanita said. "Just that we're more than just the mafia that's portrayed on TV. We are hardworking people who came here and built this country, and we have a lot of values that we share with everyone, and we want to preserve that."
