The dunes of Porto Pino – in southwest Sardinia – catch you by surprise as you are driving along a canal that connects some ponds with the sea, and through a small pine forest.
Eyes are happy to be distracted by pink flamingos and cormorants moving in the swamps, slightly oscillating boats moored in the river; and the nose is intent in taking in the wonderful smell of a nearby forest of Aleppo pines, where junipers and rosemary thrive.
