A patient with a ventricular arrhythmia has been treated with a beam of protons that hit, in a targeted manner and with a reduced impact on the delicate surrounding tissues, the part of the heart responsible for the irregular heartbeats.
It is the first time you run an intervention of this kind, developed in collaboration with the Fondazione Irccs Policlinico San Matteo, was performed at the Cnao of Pavia as a treatment on a 73-year old patient suffering from a severe form of dilated cardiomyopathy.
