Rich & Charlie's starts its 50th-anniversary celebration in St. Louis

By: Joe Holleman

A lot of veal has been parmed since 1967, which is when Rich Ronzio and Charlie Mugavero opened the first Rich & Charlie’s, a small Italian deli at Delmar Boulevard and Old Bonhomme Road. The four-restaurant chain has started celebrating the milestone by offering specials that appeared on the original menus.

The company now is owned Ronzio's nephews Marty Ronzio and Emil and Chuck Pozzo; as well as relatives Paul Ronzio, Emil Pozzo Jr., and Dominic, Andrew and Joe Puleo. "Some days I just can’t believe we’ve been in this business for 50 years. But I do think our uncle would be proud of what we have accomplished with his initial vision," said Marty Ronzio, who recalled making pasta noodles in his uncle's basement and then delivering them to the Delmar restaurant, where he also waited tables.
