Streets named after veterans in North Brunswick

Fox Meadow Road is now symbolically Bocchieri Way, while the intersection of Tremont Avenue and Stelle Avenue bears the name of Pingatore Way, as part of North Brunswick’s veteran street naming program. Salvatore “Sam” J. Bocchieri was born on Dec. 21, 1927, in Newark.

He served in the Korean War as a member of the United States Army from 1951-53. He was first assigned to the Scarwaf Engineers division who were instrumental in the development of the landing strips where military planes landed. He then served as a supply clerk for the men in that division until he was honorably discharged in January 1957. He earned the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal, according to the proclamation read during the street naming story on July 29.
