United Airlines Has a Brand New Italian Destination: Palermo, Sicily

By: Jessica Puckett

Good news for U.S. travelers yearning to visit southern Italy: on Thursday, United Airlines announced a brand new flight from New Jersey's Newark Liberty International Airport to Palermo, Sicily. It'll be the only daily nonstop flight from the U.S. to the capital city of the Italian island.

The new route, which will launch on May 20, 2020, is especially relevant for travelers who've already taken advantage of United's flights to RomeMilanVenice, and Naples. (With the addition of Palermo, the Chicago-based airline now serves five destinations in Italy—the most of any U.S. carrier.) The less-visited Palermo was named the “Italian Cultural Capital” by the country's Ministry of Culture in 2018, and offers tons of museums and galleries that mash-up decades-old and contemporary art.
